  • What Kind of Person Builds a Helicopter?

As we receive building items and articles, we'll post them here so prospective builders and owners can get a personal response to the above question. Hope you enjoy this first contribution.

John Murphy, of St Louis Missouri, has chosen to build one of these-- in his case it is a Helicycle. He was close to selecting the Kompress, but the turbine engine of the Helicycle won him over. John did have a little prior experience: 5,000 hours helo, CFI (H), owned his own helo business for 20years operating S-58s, traffic copter pilot, plus Brantly and Hughes time.
This background certainly qualifies him to speak about helicopters and look for features making a good ship.
John provided this picture of his ship, which is awaiting check out by Doug Schwochert in mid August. Really Aunt Em, this is a full size Helicycle even though it looks very much like a high detail, scale model.

Note: John's brother, Tom, is building a Safari. We should have some interesting dialogue between them and hope they share it with the magazine.
